BEFORE YOU COACH - ADULT

What All ADULT Coaches Must Complete Before The Season

Thank you for volunteering to coach with NYSA!

As a member of the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association, NYSA adheres to all MA Safe Soccer coaching requirements.

Every volunteer coach must complete an annual Mass Youth Soccer Adult Registration, required background check clearances, and two mandatory safety training courses before taking the field.

The total time commitment is typically 30-90 minutes, depending on whether you’re a new or returning coach.

Please complete the following four tasks before the season begins:

How to Complete Your Coaching Requirements

IMPORTANT:  Use your full legal name and the same email address when setting up all soccer-related accounts. This will ensure auto-uploading/verification when available.

Step 1: Complete your Mass Youth Soccer Adult Registration

New & Returning User Help Guide

Click here to create or log into your Sports Connect account and complete your Mass Youth Soccer Adult Registration, which includes both your CORI and national background (NBGC) checks.

New coaches only: At the end of the process, print the CORI Agreement Form (instructions) and then email Mike Van Nostrand. Mike will follow up with next steps to verify your identity in person or by Zoom or FaceTime.

Returning coaches: You do not need to send in this form again once it's on file and still valid.  For assistance with duplicate accounts, needing accounts merged or login issues, contact Sports Connect Support: Click this link for priority service or call (855) 703-2558. Phone Support Hours: Monday – Friday from 12pm-7pm EST | Saturday from 12pm-5pm EST

Step 2: Complete Required Trainings in the U.S. Soccer Learning Center

Click here for U.S. Soccer Learning Center - Use the same name and email you used in Sports Connect so that your completions match your Mass Youth Soccer record.

  • SafeSport Abuse Prevention Training: This training is required annually. To be valid for the Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 registration year, completion must be on or after January 1, 2025
  • Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments: This course fulfills the required concussion awareness training and is valid for two years. This training must be completed through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center, and training completed on or after June 1, 2024, meets this requirement.
  • U.S. Soccer Learning Center background checks are NON-REFUNDABLE. Mass Youth Soccer adult participants should not submit background checks through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center (unless you are required to do so by a different organization like MSRC). ONLY training in phase 1 is required.

If anything is missing, you’ll be prompted to update or retake what’s needed before the season starts.
